Sail from Venice to Rome with Windstar Itinerary:

  • Day 1 (Venice, Italy): Venice is a city unlike any other. No matter how often you've seen it in photos and films, the real thing is more dreamlike than you could imagine. With canals where streets should be, water shimmers everywhere. The fabulous palaces and churches reflect centuries of history in what was a wealthy trading center between Europe and the Orient. Getting lost in the narrow alleyways is a quintessential part of exploring Venice, but at some point you'll almost surely end up in Piazza San Marco, where tourists and locals congregate for a coffee or an aperitif.

  • Arrive and board the lovely Wind Surf.  Join the crew and other guests during the iconic unfurling of the sails.

  • Day 2 (Rovinj, Croatia): On the iconic Istrian peninsula, Rovinj has a small town, friendly feel, but attracts visitors from the heart of Europe who drive here to enjoy its charms. Rovinj’s vibrant market, held in the heart of the Old Town, showcases the region's culinary delights. (Don't try any samples of the olive oil, or you won't be able to resist buying a bottle or two!) You can also stroll along the charming outdoor cafes, and pick ton to sample fresh seafood, local olive oils, and wines from the Istrian region.

  • Day 3 (Split, Croatia): Enjoy the captivating medieval architecture, and vibrant piazzas, including the Cathedral of St. Domnius, and Diocletian’s Palace, a unique fusion of ancient Roman and medieval architecture. Within its walls and piazzas, you’ll find Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque elements from different eras. The Peristyle square, once the center of imperial ceremonies, is now a vibrant gathering spot. Visitors can climb the bell tower for panoramic views of the red-roofed cityscape and the sparkling Adriatic Sea beyond. Split also boasts the bustling Riva Promenade along the Adriatic, lined with palm trees, cafes, and restaurants, it’s the city’s social hub—ideal for a leisurely stroll.

  • Day 4 (Dubrovnik, Croatia): The Jewel of the Dalmatian Coast, Dubrovnik will capture your heart with its UNESCO Old Town, encircled by 13th-century walls soaring 80 feet high. A walk along the ramparts reveals sweeping views of terracotta rooftops, the Adriatic, and nearby islets. Enter through the Pile Gate to stroll the marble Stradun, lined with cafés, shops, and landmarks like Onofrio’s Fountain. Explore Luža Square with the Sponza Palace and Church of Saint Blaise, the Rector’s Palace, and towering Minčeta Fortress. Beyond the walls, enjoy the waterfront, the Franciscan Monastery’s historic pharmacy, or ride the cable car up Mount Srđ for a breathtaking panorama over this coastal gem.

  • Day 5 (Kotor, Montenegro): Have your cameras at the ready as you sail into the breathtaking bay of Kotor. The entire area has been proclaimed a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Kotor's medieval Stari Grad (Old Town) is enclosed within well-preserved defensive walls built between the 9th and 18th centuries and is presided over by a proud hilltop fortress. Within the walls, a labyrinth of winding cobbled streets leads through a series of splendid paved piazzas, rimmed by centuries-old stone buildings.

It spent periods under Venetian, Austrian, and French rule, though it was undoubtedly the Venetians who left the strongest impression on the city's architecture.

  • Day 6 (At Sea): Enjoy a relaxing day at sea while you sail around the southern boot of Italy. You can settle into one of the many lounge chairs on the decks to have a drink and read or chat, or pamper yourself in the Spa.  But, be sure to book spa appointments early because this is the perfect day for some "me time" and they fill up quickly.

  • Day 7 (Giardini Naxos, Sicily): Giardini Naxos, a charming coastal town on Sicily’s Ionian Sea, is a captivating destination for cruisers seeking a blend of history, natural beauty, and authentic Sicilian charm. The sparkling shoreline, including the lovely Lido Europa beach, offers soft sand and inviting waters framed by the majestic silhouette of Mount Etna. The hilltop town of Taormina boasts an awe-inspiring Greco-Roman theatre, elegant streets, and sweeping views of the sea and volcano. Venture further to discover Castelmola and Savoca, two atmospheric medieval villages rich in heritage, breathtaking vistas, and cinematic history from The Godfather.

  •  Day 8 (Sorrento): Sorrento may have become a jumping-off point for visitors to Pompeii, Capri, and Amalfi, but you can find countless reasons to love it for itself. The Sorrentine people are fair-minded and hardworking, bubbling with life and warmth.

The cliff on which the town rests is spread over the bay, absorbing sunlight, while orange and lemon trees waft their perfume in spring. The central piazza is a delightful place to walk through. Craftspeople are often at work in their stalls and shops and are happy to let you watch; in fact, that's the point.

  •   Day 9 (Rome , Civitavecchia): Rome, Italy, the Eternal City, is a stunning blend of ancient history and vibrant modern life. Iconic landmarks like the Colosseum, Vatican City, and the Pantheon showcase its glorious past. Cobblestone streets lead to charming piazzas, bustling markets, and world-renowned museums. Rome's culinary scene delights with traditional Italian cuisine and lively cafes.
